Deauville Film Festival
Natalie attended the closing ceremony of the Deauville Film Festival this evening. Before the film awards were announced, Natalie was awarded with the “Deauville Talent Award” for her lifetime achievement. The prize was presented by French actress Isabelle Adjani. Natalie arrived this afternoon at the Deauville Film Festival. She has signed autographs and has posed during the unveiling of her dedicated beach locker room on the Promenade des Planches. We have some gorgeous photos of her during the event:

Natalie will finally attend the Deauville Film Festival next September to receive the Deauville Talent Award. The festival organizers already tried to give Natalie a lifetime achievement award last year,…
Almost three months ago it was announced that the Deauville Film Festival would pay tribute to Natalie for her entire career. Select films from her filmography were also going to be screened throughout the festival, closing with a special screening of “May December,” her latest film. Unfortunately, Natalie was unable to attend due to the actors’ strike, but director Todd Haynes took her place at the tribute today and presented the film to the audience. With no projects announced in the near future, it seems that Natalie is going to focus in the coming months on promoting her soccer team, Angel City F.C. and “May December”, the film directed by Todd Haynes, ahead of the awards season in the fall…

Knight of Cups opened up this year to some interesting reviews. The Natalie Portman film (of which she only appears briefly, ala common Terrence Malick treatment) may end up being like most Malick films that get defended or attacked by the masses for years to come. However, it’s no apparent contest that director Terrence Malick has been a visionary for decades. It’s why he is being given a tribute at the Deauville Film Festival. To quote their reasons for the award:
“We thought it was the right time to honor a cineaste who places humanism at the heart of his artistic concerns,”
“We can say that his art is both harmonious and sacred. The experience he offers through his films carry us to that delicious point of going beyond the ‘self’ to the benefit of being, thus making his filmmaking unique, necessary and primordial. He turns our meanderings into the pathways of life.”
