It was one of the biggest controversies when “Annihilation” was released in 2018: after alleged negative test screenings, which called the film too “intellectual and complicated,” Paramount and Skydance sold the international rights to the film to Netflix. Since then, although the film could be purchased on other platforms such as iTunes or Amazon Prime, Netflix still had the rights to this Alex Garland film outside the USA, Canada and China… until now. In recent days, Netflix movie menus in various countries warn that the film will leave the platform on March 11 (exactly seven years after its release). Does this mean that Netflix has lost exclusivity of the film and the rights revert to Paramount? Or is it just a one-off move, with Garland’s film returning to the streaming platform at a later date? Nothing has been announced about it, but hopefully we’ll know something more concrete soon…

Is Annihilation leaving Netflix?
