I’ve got a good batch of smaller news items for you guys today. Enjoy.
– There was a brief quote from Natalie after her Golden Globe nomination. Pretty much what you’d expect but worth sharing all the same.
“I’m very honored by the HFPA nomination, and to be included in this group of actresses I so admire. The experience of filming ‘Black Swan’ with [director] Darren Aronofsky and our incredible crew is already the most fulfilling experience of my career. The audience appreciation of the film is only furthering how grateful and proud I am to be part of the film.”
– Months back, it was suggested that Natalie’s dad was upset about Black Swan. Since then we’ve learned that this wasn’t the case and this new quote further reinforces it.
“I was so nervous – there’s a lot of sexuality in the film – but he said, ‘This is my favourite thing you’ve been in.’ That meant the world to me.”
– I remember Jeff Wells was really concerned that women were being put off by Black Swan and it’s flawed heroine, but this THR article, which is a nice summary on the success of the film, seems to suggest that it’s actually playing really well to the fairer sex.
Swan has been playing to audiences skewing about 55% female. “We keep hearing anecdotally about women who have seen it two or three times already,” Gilula said.
