The Variety writers profile from a couple weeks ago was pretty clear that Natalie would be producing Book Smarts, however any doubts can be let go of now that Variety have put up a more official announcement.
Fox is getting “Booksmart” with Natalie Portman, with the thesp set to produce the high school comedy for the studio.
Laffer will revolve around two overachieving high school seniors who realize the only thing they haven’t accomplished is having boyfriends, and each resolves to find one by prom.
Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern are penning the script.
Portman will produce with her partner Annette Savitch through their Handsomecharlie Films shingle. Shingle has “Love and Other Impossible Pursuits” and “Hesher,” both starring Portman, in production.
Here’s what Natalie previously had to say about the project.
“Sarah and Emily create funny, smart, unselfconsciously strong female characters,” says Portman. “When I read ‘Book Smart,’ it was as though the script we always talk about wanting to find for our company suddenly materialized.”
As far as we know, Natalie will not be acting in the film.
