Only endorse what you believe in

Female First have jumped onto that new quote from Natalie about her not being keen to promote things she doesn’t believe in.

We’re used to celebrities faces popping up on beauty campaigns all over the place, from Beyonce at L’Oreal and Scarlett Johansson for D&G but we’ll never see Natalie Portman doing such a thing.

Natalie has revealed that she doesn’t believe in endorsing products to make money, New York magazine reports.

The actress said: “I don’t have a problem with making money, but I don’t believe in doing something you don’t believe in to make money.

“Like a makeup campaign or something like that – the opportunities that young actors have all the time.”

It’s refreshing to hear a celebrity speaking the truth instead of plugging something she has probably never used.

That’s fine but they really could and should have included the positive message that came with the full quote.

Moreover, she added, at MakingOf’s best it should offer other actors opportunities for equally modest forward strides. “I don’t have a problem with making money, but I don’t believe in doing something you don’t believe in to make money,” she said. “Like a makeup campaign or something like that — the opportunities that young actors have all the time. This is an exciting model to do something you really believe in and create something positive out of that. That’s my goal. And it seems like a lot of people are coming around to that model. It’s possible to do something positive in the world that’s still entrepreneurial.”

As you might know, Natalie did do some adverts for pure financial gain when she was younger…

What you might not have heard is that she has since denounced that decision.

Prestigious, arty projects for sure, but to float Natalie’s boat it’s got to be something she is passionate about, because since shooting a couple of Japanese adverts for shampoo and coffee when she was 19, money is the last thing on her mind.

“I really, really did not like it,” she remembers. “I felt really bad, because I don’t want to sell people things. I want to push things I believe in and I don’t need more money.

“At the time, you’re young and everyone’s telling you you can make all this money and no-one will ever see it,” she continues. “You’re like, OK, I guess this is what everyone does. Brad Pitt does it!” She pauses, before laughing. “But if I do that for money, what else am I going to do for money?”
