Natalie’s fake perfume advert, Greed, will be showing at the Gagosian Gallery in Rome from Feb 6 – Mar 21. With it being just around the corner more and more news is coming out on the art project. Artnet has a nice little summary that includes a link to a little tease, which has that one new picture I spoke about yesterday.
Described as “a signature perfume for the contemporary moment,” Greed is specifically modeled on Marcel Duchamp’s 1921 perfume Belle Haleine, and features on its label an image of Vezzoli in drag, photographed by Francesco Scavullo. A special 60-second commercial for the product, directed by Roman Polanski and starring Natalie Portman and Michele Williams, can be previewed here. Greed, it should be noted, exists only as a concept; no actual perfume was produced.
There’s also a Natalie quote from Polanski’s interview with Interview Magazine.
CB: How was it to work on Francesco’s fragrance commercial? Was it good to work with Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams?RP: It was tremendously inspiring. Both girls—Natalie and Michelle—were so charming and so easy, you know. It went so smoothly and all in one day that it was a real pleasure. They are very good actresses. Even in that little minute, in those few seconds, they were terrific.
