The Post Chronicle gives another side of the casting for Doubt, that of Amy Adams.
The Oscar nominee was a huge fan of the story, which Shanley wrote, and was desperate to appear in the big screen adaptation, despite the odds being stacked up against her.
She explains, “They had offered it (to Portman). I called every week, to see if she was doing it.”
Her luck changed when Portman said no, and she was offered the role of Sister James. But Adams still had to overcome a logistical problem.
She adds, “I lied to John Patrick Shanley and told him I was in New York, so when he called, I had to get the red eye (overnight flight) from Los Angeles, to get there.”
With Amy nabbing a Golden Globe nomination, I’m sure she feels it was well worth fighting for.
