You might have noticed that the Free Zone and Anne Frank banners have been added to the rotation. Hope you like them as much as I do and check back tomorrow for what should be the best banner for a lot of people.

I also previously mentioned that we should have a special announcement/surprise planned for this week. Well I can confirm that it will be up on friday and will blow your collective socks off. I hope.

Since we’re talking about the site, let’s begin the update with another award. Mary from http://www.merylcassie.net/ gave us site of the month.

I don?t exactly remember when I stumbled upon natalieportman.com, but it was some time before Closer came out. At the time, I hadn?t seen a single one of Nat?s movies. Now, two years later, I have seen Léon, Beautiful Girls, Heat, Cold Mountain, and Closer, as well as the Star Wars prequel parts that I could endure. I?m still not a fan of Natalie?s acting skills, and I doubt I?ll ever be, but I am definitely a fan of np.com and the guys who run it.

I have never seen a site that is so, for lack of a better word, complete. Whatever you?re looking for, you?ll find it there. The picture galleries are impressive, but personally I am again and again in awe of the video archive. I wonder how long it would take to watch all these videos one after another ? a day? Two? I don?t know. The article library is equally extensive, dating back to the very beginning of Nat?s career, in 1994.

It certainly helps that the staff members are, at least for the most part, grown-ups. They might be hopelessly devoted to Natalie, but that doesn?t mean that they can?t poke fun at themselves (and the fanbase in general) every once in a while. Dazza?s subtle humor gives the constantly updated news an unique touch and Sanjiro?s Portmania writings, while mildly frightening, are hilarious.

My favourite feature on the whole site might be the editorial section, where Natalie gets criticized, defended, questioned, and discussed. It is an excellent platform for Natalie fans (and some dumbasses, as usual) to voice their opinions.

While maybe my almost-daily visits to np.com only prove that I have too much time on my hands sometimes, it also shows that the site has achieved what I consider an astounding feat: it has made me, Miss-I-don?t-like-Natalie-Portman, knowledgeable about the mention in ?Privilege?, the Wailing Wall controversy, the pregnancy rumours, and the brilliant rap. Sometimes, God forbid, I even vote on the poll.

She goes on for a few more paragraphs about how incredibly toned my body is but I think we all know that already.

Let me just say that those are incredibly kind words. And really, have truer words ever been spoken? Receieving prestigious awards like this should be no surprise…in fact, I’m surprised it was only “site of the month” and not “site of all time in the known and unknown universe”.

You know, today Superman Returns is opening on something like 4000 screens in the US. And that’s cool. But why isn’t NP.com opening on 4000 screens as well? Can you answer me that? Clearly we’re deserving. We have the award to prove that. But its not happening.

News is just breaking that musical genius Jeff Mangum will soon be returning to the studio for the first time in a decade, armed with a ton of new material. Will one of the new songs be about NP.com? Bizarrely, the answer is probably no. And again I ask, WHY? NP.com should be the name on the tongue of every genius woth his salt. But its not happening.

It. Makes. No. Sense.

But you know, with awards like this one it can really only be a matter of time. NP.com is gonna topple the Titanic and win the World Cup. And you know why? Because its happening, baby. Its happening.

I’m not sure if there is any truth to this but Haze found a Livejournal entry from someone who saw Nat and Norah Jones filming in Ely, Nevada. No mention of any blonde hair so I think we can flush that rumour.
