crossing the line

Lets talk.

Sit here on my couch…I said couch, not lap.

Ok.

Our image gallery has the ability for people to leave comments. We use it and encourage it in the comic gallery but Melody doesn’t like them in the other galleries and so we don’t use it. But Melody is away and since we got those new pics, I set up a temp gallery and left the comments permission on.

Today I got a few emails from people who were very disappointed by some of the things said in relation to those smoking pics. After checking them out I sorta have to agree.

Yes, Nat smokes (although its a relatively healthy brand…unless she’s changed). We covered it in an editorial when the news first broke, a little over a year ago.

Yes, smoking is a crappy habit.

Yes, she used to be very much against it (but that doesn’t make her a hypocrite. lazy journalism is to blame for “she doesn’t smoke” to still be appearing in articles.)

But as disgusting a habit as smoking is, some of those comments were even more so.

Why is this important? Because we’ve been planning to bring a comment feature to the news. Much like a blog, we’ve been working on a way for you all to be able to give feedback and discuss things that we post about. But now…now I’m not sure. Obviously any small thought about an open policy where anyone can give comments is out of the question. But should we scrap the idea entirely?

I certainly don’t think people should always be sucking up to Natalie and think the sun shines out of her ass but there’s a point where criticism goes a bit too far.

So I want to hear from you guys. Should we go ahead with these plans and see what happens? How do you think it should work?

Perhaps I can set up a poll about it later in the week…
