Two generations of Tinseltown beauty joined forces to stunning effect when Raquel Welch and Natalie Portman brought their individual brands of glamour to a charity bash in Los Angeles.

Silver screen icon Raquel, 63, was the first to arrive at the glitzy luncheon on Wednesday afternoon, dazzling the waiting snappers in a classic white trouser suit, big shades and radiant smile. Natalie also went for the simple but effective look, making her entrance in a little black frock with a flirty handkerchief hemline.

Despite the 40-year age gap between them, the two actresses look set to take the box office by storm in the months ahead. Raquel has recently finished work on the drama Forget About It with Burt Reynolds, w hile Natalie returns to our screens in the new Star Wars movie.

Along with Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Wahlberg, Jim Carrey and Kirk Douglas, Raquel and Natalie were showing their support for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which this year has given over $1 million to film schools and non-governmental organisations.

Handling her newfound fame may prove something of challenge for the Texan beauty. But her father, who was still in his teens when he landed the role as Richie Cunningham in Happy Days, is likely to have some good advice. And her close friends Natalie
Portman and Jake Gyllenhaal likewise have plenty of experience with the pressures of stardom.

Psychology and acting go hand in hand, says Natalie
Portman, who majored in the former, makes her living at the latter and often finds the two overlapping. ?The thing I like most about this job,? says Portman, who stars in the just-released comedy ?Garden State? for writer/director Zach Braff, ?is that it’s like practicing empathy, practicing looking at someone else’s life and saying, ?What is your life like. How do you feel?’ Which is kind of cool because it’s kind of the antithesis of what celebrity is. Celebrity is ?Look at me. This is how I feel. This is my life. This is my confession.’ With acting, it’s all about, ?What is your experience?’ ?
