Morning
Today Natalie is going to be talking at Berkeley and we now know that tomorrow she's going to be doing the same at Stanford. Click here for the details.
In even better news it looks like Natalie FINALLY has a new project and a good one at that. It's a remake of a Danish film called Brothers and stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire with Natalie playing Tobey's wife. It's written by David Benioff (whose work I LOVED in 25th Hour) and directed by Jim Sheridan, who has made two of my favourite films (In the Name of the Father, In America), and if you head over here you can see that it was him who spilled the beans about Natalie's involvement. Thanks to Celiana.

| Wow, it's a very good news! But why do they want to remake Brothers ? |

To bring the story to a wider audience...I would hope.

At last, a movie with a great concept! :)
But why a remake? :( Can't they come up with something original in Hollywood? |

One- "told you so" to everyone who whined that Nat wasn't getting offered good work. We didn't even know she was in *negotiations*. ::sticks out tongue:: That's to everyone who actually believed the Snow White story.
Second- I loved Brothers and hope this remake does it justice. 90% of the time I'm against remakes because they're insulting knock-offs, but Sheridan is top-notch so I have hope. |

| Maybe I'll head up to UCLA to see what she has to say, unless it's closed to students. I'm not a student in the UC system, darn. |

If this is true it's great that we've finally got news of Natalie in a new project. I just hope if Natalie is in this then her character is well-fleshed out. I can't stand how women in "the wife" roles are usually just ciphers.
Hollywood is so lazy. What's with all the English language remakes of perfectly good foreign films? I haven't seen 'Brothers' but I liked Bier's other films. Sheridan has made some great films but I wasn't fond of his last few; I didn't even bother with 'Get Rich or Die Tryin'' and I found "In America" unrealistic and twee so I hope this is a step up. |

| Well, about why Hollywood doesn't make those movies... They are too bussy looking for the movies that MAKE MONEY. And who goes most to cinemas? Teenages. And no "Ignar Bergman" -to say it some way- is sold among them. |

| Yeah, I like to pretend Get Rich doesn't exist. You really didn't like In America? Wow, I think it was one of my top 3 movies for that year. Found it incredibly moving and frankly didn't want it to end. Yeah, it was very cutesy or twee in places but if you're into a film that can be a good thing. Amelie was twee personified and I loved it for it. |

Daz, what would your top three favourite films be? (Inquiring minds want to know:))
I know you'd said earlier that "Magnolia" was probably your most liked film of all time. Have you seen anything else to have changed your mind?
PS. I loved reading this write up of the movie: http://www.metaphilm.com/philm.php?id=96_0_2_0 |

It good news that she'll finally play a role as a wife and its good she'll star with 2 of her freinds.
Also I heard on tv the britney spears lost her 2 sons. I know that natalie would have seen this and wouldnt make the same mistake, which is why she's only going out with some men to first learn about them, cause she doesn't want her man to marry her for her money as britney's ex did. |

Thanks for the link, Goose. Interesting read with quite a few things I hadn't heard about before, like the origins of the word Magnolia.
Yeah, it's still my favourite film. I don't really have a specific number 2 and 3 and ask me on a different day and you'll probably get different answers.
Right now I'll say The Big Lebowski and Almost Famous. All 3 films I liked on first viewing but didn't love.
On other days I might say The Insider, Memento, Fight Club, Before Sunset, F**king Amal, Shawshank Redemption etc. |
